About this design

This Indo-colonial 4 BHK apartment renovation was designed for a family of four with two school-going children at Jacaranda Meadows, Koramangala, Bengaluru. The brief asked for space for guests without a dedicated guest room, so the team designed a sofa-cum-bed corner in the study.

The palette is ivory, teak brown and bottle green, with cane-back chairs, louvred shutters and patterned tiles. Main materials: cane weave, teak, athangudi tiles and wrought iron. In Bengaluru, windows were kept clear for cross-ventilation so the home needs little air conditioning.

Work on site took about 11 weeks after the design was signed off, and the approximate cost was ₹60 lakh for 2,180 sq ft of carpet area, including GST. Treat it as a reference: brands, site conditions and the city change the final price.

Highlights

  • Kitchen moved to a modular layout
  • Waterproofed bathrooms before retiling
  • New flooring laid over old tiles
  • Rewired with a new distribution board
