Interior Cost Calculator: Itemised Home Interior Quote
Three steps: choose your home, choose your materials, then fine-tune the rooms. You get a line-by-line quote and a material spec sheet in the same format designers use, so you can compare their quotes like for like.
How this interior cost calculator works
It prices your home the way an itemised designer quotation does, one line at a time, and it never scales your total by a grade or city factor.
- Cabinets and wardrobes are priced per square foot of their front (length × height). The rate adds up the box board, the shutter core, the finish and the fittings you picked, plus factory making, edge banding, transport and installation.
- Wet areas such as the kitchen sink and hob units and bathroom vanities use the wet-area board you choose, normally BWP plywood.
- Fittings such as tandem drawers, corner units and pull-outs have a price for each fittings range.
- Countertops and false ceilings are priced per square foot of the option you pick; services such as deep cleaning are fixed prices.
- GST at 18% is added to the total.
All the arithmetic runs on our server from one rate sheet, so the estimate attached to your enquiry is exactly the one you saw.
Material guide: what each choice means
Use these names when you brief a designer. A quotation that does not name the board, shutter, finish and fitting brand cannot be compared with another one.
Box (carcass) board
| Option | What it is | Where it suits / what to check |
|---|---|---|
| Commercial MR plywood, 18 mm | Unbranded moisture-resistant plywood for cabinet sides, shelves and backs. | Dry rooms on a tight budget. Ask for the thickness and a sample sheet. |
| HDHMR board, 18 mm | High-density, high-moisture-resistant fibre board: dense, flat and smooth. | Wardrobes and dry units. Edges must be sealed; not for sink cabinets. |
| Calibrated MR plywood, 18 mm | MR plywood sanded to an even thickness, so laminates sit flat and joints stay tight. | Good value for wardrobes, TV units and wall units. |
| Branded MR plywood, IS:303, 18 mm | Moisture-resistant plywood from a national brand, made to IS:303 with a stamped grade. | The usual choice for dry areas. Check the IS:303 stamp on every sheet. |
| Branded BWR plywood, 18 mm | Boiling-water-resistant plywood: better glue line than MR for humid rooms. | Bedrooms on outer walls, coastal or very humid homes. |
| BWP marine plywood, IS:710, 18 mm | Boiling-water-proof plywood made to IS:710 with phenolic glue. | Kitchen sink and hob units, bathroom vanities. |
| Gurjan BWP plywood, IS:710, 18 mm | BWP plywood with gurjan hardwood veneers throughout, heavier and stronger. | Top-end kitchens and vanities that should last 15 years or more. |
Shutter (door) core
| Option | What it is | Where it suits / what to check |
|---|---|---|
| Commercial plywood, 18 mm | Unbranded plywood core for the doors and drawer fronts. | Budget work; check for warping on tall doors. |
| HDHMR, 18 mm | Dense fibre-board core that stays flat and takes routing and profiles well. | Tall wardrobe doors and handle-less profiles. |
| Calibrated plywood, 18 mm | Even-thickness plywood core, so doors line up and gaps stay equal. | A good middle choice for most rooms. |
| Branded MR plywood, 18 mm | National-brand IS:303 plywood core with good screw holding. | The usual choice; holds hinges well for years. |
| Branded BWP plywood, 18 mm | IS:710 plywood core for doors near water. | Sink and dishwasher doors, bathroom vanities. |
Shutter finish
| Option | What it is | Where it suits / what to check |
|---|---|---|
| Laminate 0.8 mm, regional brand | Decorative laminate on the outside, 0.8 mm liner inside. | Lowest cost; fewer colours and textures. |
| Laminate 1 mm, national brand, matt or suede | 1 mm decorative laminate from a national brand, with a matching liner and edge band. | Toughest everyday finish; hides fingerprints. |
| High-gloss laminate 1 mm | Glossy decorative laminate with matching edge band. | Reflective look at laminate prices; shows scratches more. |
| Anti-fingerprint or textured laminate | Super-matt, anti-fingerprint or wood-texture laminate. | Handle-less kitchens and dark colours. |
| Acrylic 1.5 mm, edge-matched | Acrylic sheet on the front with a matching acrylic edge band: mirror gloss or soft matt. | Kitchens and wardrobes that should look seamless. |
| PU paint, matt or gloss | Polyurethane paint sprayed in layers on MDF or ply, in any colour. | Any shade, curved profiles; can be touched up. |
| Natural wood veneer with PU polish | Real wood veneer sealed with clear PU polish. | Warm, natural grain for living rooms and bedrooms. |
Fittings range (hinges, channels, pull-outs)
| Option | What it is | Where it suits / what to check |
|---|---|---|
| Normal hinges and channels | Standard hinges and telescopic channels without soft-close. | Rarely used doors only. |
| Soft-close, Indian branded | Soft-close hinges and full-extension channels from an established Indian brand. | Best value for most homes; ask for the brand and range by name. |
| Soft-close, German-engineered range | German-engineered hinges, channels and baskets with smoother, quieter motion. | Kitchens and wardrobes in daily use. |
| Premium German fittings | Premium German hinges, tandem boxes and organisers with longer warranties. | Heavy drawers and tall pull-outs. |
| Top-end Austrian ranges | Flagship Austrian hinge, lift-up and drawer systems. | Lifetime-grade motion; top-end kitchens. |
Kitchen countertop
| Option | What it is | Where it suits / what to check |
|---|---|---|
| Granite 18–20 mm, polished | Indian granite such as Jet Black or Tan Brown, polished, with sink and hob cut-outs. | Hard-wearing and heat-proof; the default for Indian cooking. |
| Premium granite 20 mm, polished | Select granite with fewer veins and a uniform colour. | When the counter is a design feature. |
| Quartz 15 mm, national brand | Engineered quartz: uniform colour, non-porous. | Low upkeep; keep hot pans off it. |
| Sintered stone 12 mm | Large-format sintered stone slabs. | Heat and stain resistant; premium kitchens and islands. |

|---|---|---|
| POP on GI frame | Plaster of Paris on a galvanised iron frame. | Curves and mouldings; takes longer to dry. |
| Gypsum board on GI frame | Gypsum boards on a galvanised iron channel frame, joints taped and finished. | The usual choice for living rooms and bedrooms. |
| Moisture-resistant gypsum board | Moisture-resistant (green) gypsum board on a GI frame. | Kitchens, balconies and humid rooms. |
| Wooden rafters or veneer panels | Wooden rafters or veneer-faced panels on a frame. | Feature ceilings in living and dining rooms. |
How to compare designer quotes with this list
- Send the same list to every firm. Print this page (or save it as a PDF) and ask for a quote on the same items, sizes and spec sheet.
- Check the names, not just the totals. Board grade and IS standard (IS:303 or IS:710), shutter core, laminate or acrylic thickness and brand, and the hinge and channel range.
- Compare line by line. A total that looks cheap often leaves out lofts, countertops, fittings or the false ceiling.
- Read the exclusions. Electrical work, painting, civil changes, transport and debris removal are often outside the price.
- Get warranties in writing. The board maker's warranty and the firm's own workmanship warranty are different things.
Our guides to plywood grades, acrylic vs laminate, kitchen hardware and choosing an interior designer explain what each choice changes. For a single room, the kitchen calculator and wardrobe calculator go into more detail.
Frequently asked questions
How is each line priced?
Cabinets and wardrobes are priced per square foot of their front (length × height). Their rate is the sum of the box board, the shutter core, the shutter finish and the fittings you choose, plus factory making and installation. Fittings, accessories and services have their own fixed prices, and the countertop and false ceiling are priced per square foot of the option you pick. Nothing is scaled by a hidden factor.
Why does the board in wet areas have its own setting?
Kitchen sink and hob units and bathroom vanities sit next to water every day. They should use BWP (boiling-water-proof, IS:710) plywood whatever you choose for the rest of the home, so the calculator prices those units with the wet-area board.
Does the estimate include GST?
Yes. 18% GST is added to the total of everything you have ticked.
How close will a real quote be?
For the same items, sizes and materials, usually within 10–15%. Site conditions, the exact module sizes after measurement and the specific brands chosen account for most of the difference.
How do I use this to compare designer quotes?
Print the quote with its spec sheet and give the same list to every firm. Ask them to quote each line with the board, shutter, finish and fitting brand named. Lines that differ a lot from your estimate are the ones to question.
Which city are the rates for?
Bengaluru trade rates, updated every quarter. Other large cities are usually within about 10% for the same specification; compare with local quotes.
