About this design

This Indo-colonial living room was designed for retired parents moving closer to their children at Saffron Residency, Satellite, Ahmedabad. The brief asked for more natural light, so the team kept the window wall clear and used sheer curtains.

The palette is ivory, teak brown and bottle green, with cane-back chairs, louvred shutters and patterned tiles. Main materials: cane weave, teak, athangudi tiles and wrought iron. In Ahmedabad, light, heat-reflecting colours, blackout curtains and units kept off hot west walls help through the summer.

Work on site took about 5 weeks after the design was signed off, and the approximate cost was ₹5.3 lakh for a 262 sq ft room, including GST. Treat it as a reference: brands, site conditions and the city change the final price.

Highlights

  • Accent wall with fluted panels
  • Rug sized so all sofa legs sit on it
