Traditional Indian wooden slat ceiling over the dining table in Anna Nagar, Madurai

About this design

This traditional Indian wooden slat ceiling over the dining table was designed for a young professional living alone at Bluebell Gardens, Anna Nagar, Madurai. The brief asked for hiding AC pipes and beams, so the team boxed them into a peripheral ceiling with access panels.

The palette is turmeric, deep red and peacock green, with carved teak, brass accents and handloom upholstery. Main materials: solid teak, brass inlay, handloom fabric and kota stone. In Madurai, light, heat-reflecting colours, blackout curtains and units kept off hot west walls help through the summer.

Work on site took about 1 weeks after the design was signed off, and the approximate cost was ₹0.9 lakh for about 830 sq ft, including GST. Treat it as a reference: brands, site conditions and the city change the final price.
