Mid-century modern U-shaped kitchen in New Town, Kolkata

About this design

This mid-century modern U-shaped kitchen was designed for a first-time home buyer at Ironbark Meadows, New Town, Kolkata. The brief asked for a breakfast counter for quick meals, so the team extended the counter into a two-seat breakfast ledge.

The palette is walnut, teal and burnt orange, with tapered legs, walnut veneer and globe lights. Main materials: walnut veneer, tapered legs, terrazzo and boucle fabric. In Kolkata, BWP plywood, sealed board edges and stainless hardware stand up to the humid, salty air.

Work on site took about 6 weeks after the design was signed off, and the approximate cost was ₹1.5 lakh for a 97 sq ft room, including GST. Treat it as a reference: brands, site conditions and the city change the final price.
