Guest post. Written by the team at Huma Interiors, our partner studio in Chandapura, and edited by Enteriors. For a neutral way to choose any firm, start with our guide to finding an interior designer near you.
We design and build homes along Hosur Road every week, from towers in Electronic City to independent houses in Chandapura. The questions homeowners ask us are remarkably similar, so here is the plan we wish every client had before the first meeting: what to decide, what this part of Bengaluru does to materials, and how to compare quotes without getting lost in totals.
Start with how you will use the home
Good interior design starts with a list, not a mood board. Write down who lives in the home, what each room is for, what you need to store and which appliances you have. A family home, a rental flat and a house you will extend later need three different plans, even if the floor plans look the same.
- Family apartments need generous kitchen storage, full-height wardrobes with lofts, a foyer unit for shoes and a study corner.
- Rental flats need a tough, neutral kitchen and wardrobes, and very little else.
- Independent houses need the whole house planned at once: electrical points, ceilings and storage on every floor.
What this stretch of Hosur Road does to materials
Three things show up again and again in our projects. Dust from traffic and construction settles on open shelves within days, so closed storage and sealed board edges pay off. Heat on west-facing walls makes an air gap behind wardrobes worth the few centimetres. Hard water in homes on borewell supply leaves scale on taps and sink edges, so BWP plywood under the sink and scale-resistant fittings matter.
If you are comparing interior design in Electronic City with firms from central Bangalore, ask each one how often its supervisor will visit and how quickly it handles service calls. Distance shows up after handover, not in the quote.
Agree the society's rules first
Most communities here set work hours, lift slots for material, noise limits and a refundable deposit. We ask for the rules in writing before we schedule anything, and we suggest every homeowner does the same. A plan that ignores them loses a week or two.
Compare quotes line by line
Two quotes with the same total can hide very different kitchens. Before you compare totals, make sure each quote names:
- The board grade and standard: IS:303 MR plywood for dry areas, IS:710 BWP near water.
- The shutter core and finish: laminate thickness and brand, or acrylic, PU or veneer.
- The hinge, channel and pull-out brand and range.
- Sizes, lofts and what is excluded: civil work, electricals, painting, transport.
- Payment stages tied to delivery and installation, and the warranty in writing.
The easiest way is to price your own list first in the Enteriors interior cost calculator, print it and give the same list to every firm. Our own budgets for home interiors in Chandapura and nearby areas are worked out the same way, line by line.
Plan houses as a whole, build them in phases
In Chandapura many clients build one floor for the family and let the others. We plan and wire every floor together, then build the kitchen, wardrobes and bathrooms first. Decorative work and loose furniture can follow without breaking anything that is finished. The same thinking applies to offices and shops: our notes on commercial interior designers in Bangalore cover the extra checks for those.
Before you sign
Visit one finished home and one live site, ask to see the factory or workshop, and read the warranty. Then choose the firm whose quote names the most and assumes the least. For more on that, the Enteriors guide to choosing an interior designer has a full scorecard.
Frequently asked questions
Which areas does this guide cover?
Electronic City Phase 1 and 2, Hebbagodi, Bommasandra, Chandapura and the communities off Hosur Road towards Attibele.
What is the most common mistake in apartment interiors here?
Approving a quote that does not name the board grade, laminate brand and hinge brand. Two quotes with the same total can have very different materials inside.
How early should I book an interior firm?
About two months before you want to move in for a kitchen and wardrobes, and three to four months for a full home, so design, production and installation are not rushed.
